The Local Plumber Hiring Guide: Top 5 Qualifications

3/22/2019

Interested in finding the right local plumber for your plumbing needs? Understanding there are different plumbing companies that have various and unique expertise can be complicated and confusing when you don't know much about plumbing to begin with.

That's okay! We're here to help you look out for the top 5 qualifications and characteristics to look for when hiring a local plumber.
The Local Plumber To Avoid

Let's admit it - it's extremely easy to find a local plumber, but it can be very challenging to find one that you can trust to be honest with you and offer you top-quality plumbing services at a reasonable price. Let's begin with a short list of red flags to help you identify the plumber you should avoid:

  1. Inconsistent Cost - We all understand that deeper problems may underlie when estimating cost for work, but a plumber who seems to be giving you inconsistent estimates without quoting on paper may indicate inexperience or a potential scam.

  2. The Non-Responder - Have you ever called a service company and never received a call back? This may be an indicator that they are too busy to answer your questions or address your plumbing needs. A company that appears busy does not mean they are successful and trustworthy. A trustworthy plumber or plumbing company will show you they care by giving you a call back.

  3. Unprofessional Behavior - A plumber should appear and act professional when interacting with a (potential) customer. If you're receiving a quote from someone who constantly interrupts, does not address your concerns, and does not have common household manners - you should highly consider dropping them to find someone who genuinely cares.

So how do you find a plumber or plumbing company that cares? Take a look at the list below to help you find what you need.

5 Tips To Choosing The Right Local Plumber

After listing a couple of red flags you should look out for - here are indicators of your ideal local plumber for your plumbing needs.

  1. Licensed & Insured - Any plumber/plumbing company should have some form license and insurance. This protects them from certain liabilities, and also protects you as well.

  2. Good Reviews - Thankfully we have access to a variety of different review sites for businesses, from the BBB to Google Reviews - you can keep an eye on what other people say about the plumber or plumbing company. Always use discretion when reading reviews. Not all bad reviews are an implication of the quality of service delivered by the company - but if the bad reviews outweigh the good reviews, you may want to think twice about calling for a quote.

  3. Offering Free Advice - This does not mean that they offer their services for free. However, they may have a blog on their website that provides tips and tricks on how to prevent plumbing issues. Some plumbers may also offer some training and/or guidance with some common household plumbing issues to help reduce your cost. Wes Covert at Covert Plumbing is notorious for helping out his customers to help them save as much money as they can. He's always happy to offer his tips and tricks to keep your money in your pocket!

  4. Honest Rates - Be weary of plumbers who don't believe in contracts or written receipts. Plumbers should have a base price for each service, but of course there are variables within these services that may cause the rate to increase, and your plumber should be up front and honest with you about this.

  5. Preparation is Key - A good plumber will make you aware of any additional costs that would not be included with the actual plumbing service. For example, if a plumber has to cut into walls or ceilings, there may be an additional cost for sheet rock repair.
We hope these tips have helped you in finding the right local plumber for your needs.

We are there when you need us.

Rain or shine, our belief is to help others to the best of our ability, and ease the stress that comes with plumbing problems. Most plumbing jobs are assessed and served the same day as the call was received. Wes Covert, owner of Covert Plumbing, is happy to answer all of your questions and speak with you personally.

When we perform, we inform.

Here at Covert Plumbing we’re not about getting in and getting the job over with. We want to make sure that you are a part of the process in knowing how/why the plumbing incident happened, what we’re doing to solve it, and how we can prevent this occurrence in the future.

We are also happy to show you ways to take care of plumbing mishaps without the need of our services. We want to build a healthy relationship based on trust and communication. We feel this is one of the best ways of bringing that to you.

We offer fair, up-front pricing.

Many of our customers are astonished when it comes to our pricing. We believe in fair pricing, because life brings unexpected costs and we want to help make that burden a little lighter. We will fully assess a plumbing need and give you an honest quote.

We’ve surprised ourselves when the final cost was cheaper than what we quoted - and we love it when that happens!

Of course, there are occurrences that a plumbing issue is deeper than what may have initially appeared, costing more than the original quote. When this happens we fully communicate before moving forward on any of our plumbing services.
